MUMBAI
The civic body has handed over the list of these buildings to fire brigade department asking it to recee the areas where they are situated.
Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has identified 24 buildings in the city as most vulnerable in the pre-monsoon survey.
The civic body has handed over the list of these buildings to fire brigade department asking it to recee the areas where they are situated and get a know-how about building plan in case they need to carry out rescue operations in future.
The cessed buildings have been issued notices and asked to shift to alternate location.
"We have given the list of these buildings to the fire department and asked them to conduct a recee of the area surrounding the building and understand the building plan. In case of any eventuality it would make it easier for them to carry out evacuation process," chief officer of MCGM's Disaster Management, Mahesh Narvekar told PTI here.
E-ward which covers Mazgaon in central Mumbai has more than five buildings that stand in the most dangerous category including two wings of Botawala Chawl at Rambhau Marg, Prabhudas Chawl, Building No 4 at Mhatarpakhadi Cross lane and Ray
Chamber. They have been sent notices to vacate these premises.
"Notices have been sent to E, B, D, C,G-north and A-ward to vacate the premises. Heavy rains coupled with high tide may
create problems in these areas," Narvekar said.
In the B-Ward buildings like 23-G at Memonwada, 364-268 at Sammual Street, 252 Nagdevi Street and 254 Narisnatha Street have been given notices. In D-ward buildings include 55 Dr Gopalrao Deshmukh Marg, Peddar Road, 48-50 Sletter Road and
3 Chunam Lane.
The civic body has also asked ward offices to identify five places in each of the 24 wards in the city as temporary shelters.
"We have also asked the ward offices to keep a vigil on chronic spots in their area. The usual spots are Kalachowkie, Prateeksha Nagar, Kurla, Andheri subway, Hanuman Nagar, Dahisar subway, J P Road and few others," Narvekar said.
Municipal commissioner had last week said that MCGM has identified overall 721 buildings in dilapidated condition.
They will be served notices to vacate the premises in the next
couple of days and if needed they will be forcibly evacuated.
The civic body has also identified 127 spots prone to landslides during monsoon. Last year, a landslide in Saki Naka had killed 10 and injured 25 others.
