BEST connectivity for metro and monorail routes in Mumbai

Here’s some good news for commuters eagerly awaiting completion of the metro and monorail projects. Both projects of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will have bus connectivity by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) along its routes.
Officials from Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) - a special project vehicle created by MMRDA and Reliance Infrastructure - recently had a meeting with BEST officials where a plan was chalked out. The BEST has decided to integrate bus services at metro and monorail stations, so as to make travelling trouble-free for Mumbaikars.
“The metro and monorail will result in convenient and safe journey for the citizens in Mumbai. MMRDA is not only focused on completing the projects, but it also wants to satisfy the needs of commuters and enhance the transport system in Mumbai,” said MMRDA metropolitan commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad, adding that the authority plans to provide integrated ticketing system as well. Such a ticketing system will facilitate a well-integrated public transport system in the coming future and offer a simple integrated fare structure across various modes of transport.
“We had a preliminary meeting with MMOPL to understand the logistics and connectivity issue to provide BEST connectivity to metro. We are positive and are looking forward to making available the best and comfortable transport service,” said BEST general manager Om Prakash Gupta.
The first phase of metro between Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar and the monorail between Chembur-Wadala-Jacob Circle is expected to be ready by next year.
