No cricket please
After the apparent drubbing given to the city police chief, Meeran Chadha Borwankar, by deputy chief minister, Ajit Pawar, the first casualty was the proposed cricket match between the cops and the scribes. The match, which was supposed to be held at the end of the month, stood cancelled with the cops getting cold feet about facing the media, even on the cricket pitch. When our colleague enquired about the fate of the match, a senior officer told him, “We are scared to face the media any which way now.”

Too health conscious
After the investigations done by DNA about the questionable source of water used by pani puri vendors, some “health conscious” colleagues of ours felt vindicated about their dislike for street food. One of them was appaled to find another colleague relishing ice candy (gola) of questionable hygiene bought from a street vendor. When he remonstrated with the colleague, pat came the reply, “We are reporters, even germs are scared of us”.

Change of heart
A colleague of ours was stopped by a couple of traffic constables for jumping a signal. They told him to pay a fine of Rs200 for jumping the signal and obstructing traffic. Although our colleague was ready to pay the fine, he wanted to know how he had obstructed traffic. This seemingly simple question seemed to unsettle the constables. Taking the driving licence of our colleague, he called up the control room to find out the antecedents of our colleague. After some time, he returned with a smile and asked our colleague to go on as he was impressed with his honesty and law abiding nature. Perplexed at this sudden turn of events, our colleague asked why he was being let off when he was ready to pay the fine. The constable was taken by surprise and kept on insisting that our colleague leave without paying the fine. Soon, quite a few other people also joined the chorus and our colleague, left the scene without paying the fine.
