In order to cope up during emergency situations in the city, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) feels that there is need for helicopter to deal during disasters.

"The BMC should have a helicopter to tackle emergencies. We also plan to seek government's permission to construct more helipads within the city so that people can be easily air-lifted during a disaster situation," municipal commissioner Swadhin Kshatriya said on the sidelines of 'Tatpar Mumbai' event here.

'Tatpar Mumbai', a two-day exhibition organised by the BMC's disaster management cell, provided citizens an inner experience of various disasters. Mock drills on precautions and measures to be taken during disasters like earthquake, bomb blast, fire, flooding were also presented.

"During any kind of disaster, it becomes difficult to reach hospitals so a dedicated lane should be reserved only for ambulances to ensure that the victim gets timely treatment," additional municipal commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar said.

Over 30 agencies and stakeholders including police, army, navy fire brigade, BARC, railways, MMRDA and BEST among others related to city's disaster management participated in the exhibition.
