BMC sends notices to 756 nursing homes in Mumbai

The local civic body has sent notices to over 750 nursing homes in the city asking them to change their user type from residential to commercial.

Of the 1,400 nursing homes, the building proposal department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sent notices to about 756 nursing homes to change their user type. The nursing homes will be required to pay a premium to the BMC for getting the change registered.

"The BMC has sent notices to 756 nursing homes. As they change their user type status from residential to commercial they will be required to pay a premium in three instalments by March 25," additional municipal commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar said.

The nursing home will have to pay a premium of 20% that will be based on the capital value of the built up area of the property as per the ready reckoner rates.

"The license of the nursing homes will be renewed for a period of one year during which they have to submit architectural plans under the Bombay Nursing Home Registration Act. They must also give details about the change in user type after which they will get a permanent license," Mhaiskar said.

According to civic officials, about Rs60 crore will be generated as revenue by the BMC as each nursing home will have to shell out anywhere between Rs5 lakh to Rs10 lakh.
