Energy and Resource Institute yet to submit report on Pune's carbon footprint

 The Energy and Resource Institute (Teri), the reputed environment institute, has failed to determine the carbon footprint of the city.

The municipal administration has issued a notice to the institute to submit its report within two months, said additional municipal commissioner, Naresh Zurmure on Tuesday.

He was speaking to reporters after presenting the Environment Status Report (ESR) of Pune for 2010-11.

Rajendra Pachauri is director general of Teri. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) chaired by Pachauri was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

Zurmure said the contract signed by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) with Teri stated that the institute would prepare the ESR of Pune for 2010-11 and also prepare the carbon footprint report of the city.

Out of the amount of Rs30 lakh the institute was supposed to get, Rs18 lakh was for the report and Rs12 lakh for determining the carbon footprint of the city.

He said Teri prepared the ESR draft report, but it has not yet submitted the final report. It has also not submitted the report on the carbon footprint, which it was supposed to present by March 31.

He said the Teri has been given Rs13.5 lakh and the balance amount to be paid to the institute has been withheld as the carbon footprint report is not yet submitted.

The institute had cited insufficient data as the reason for not preparing the carbon footprint report of Pune city.

He said the PMC administration recently issued a letter to Teri to submit the carbon footprint report within two months.

Fellow of Teri, Anjali Parasnis, had said in July 2010 that the institute would determine carbon footprint of Pune city in six months.
