India Against Corruption rally on Sunday for ‘corruption-free’ Pune

India Against Corruption (IAC), Pune, would start a campaign in the city to weed out corruption. A rally on September 18 from Yerawada to Ralegan Siddhi, the village of the anti-corruption crusader, Anna Hazare, is on the cards.

IAC members had taken an active part in organising peaceful agitations in the city when Hazare had staged his 12-day fast in New Delhi.

IAC convenor, BB Somani, told reporters on Thursday that after the Gandhian’s protest, many questioned the IAC about its future plans. “Our aim is to make the city corruption-free,” he said.

“We are going to distribute cards saying ‘I will not do corruption. I will not allow others to do corruption’. We will also put up similar stickers at different government offices, including the Pune Municipal Corporation. If any government official refuses to put up such stickers, the IAC members would sign bhajans every day in front of his home till he accepts such stickers,” he said.

The Pune branch will also hold road shows, awareness campaigns in colleges, schools and Rotary Clubs. “Since the civic elections are approaching, we will be conducting rallies where people will be made aware of their local leaders,” said Somani.

According to him, IAC received more than Rs5.87 lakh from people during the Hazare stir. IAC volunteer Shekhar Mundada said that about Rs3.13 lakh was spent on organising protests and rallies. “The remaining amount has been transferred to the trust owned by Arvind Kejriwal,” he added.
