Indian taught us Hindi, says Ajmal

In a significant statement, Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab told the special sessions court on Monday that an Indian national named Abu Jindal was involved in the 26/11 terror conspiracy.

This is the first time Ajmal has confessed about the role of an Indian in the terror attack. Even in his statements before a magistrate and to the police, Ajmal had not revealed anything about Jindal or any other Indian.

Ajmal said Jindal trained him and the nine other terrorists who attacked Mumbai on November 26, 2008, how to speak Hindi. The training was imparted while the 10 were being trained at a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) camp in Pakistan.

Commenting on this, special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said Ajmal was making the statement deliberately. "He has some designs in making such a confession because earlier he had never disclosed the involvement of any Indian," Nikam said. "I strongly suspect that he is not telling the truth."

The court is yet to decide whether to accept Ajmal's confession, Nikam said.

Ajmal admitted in court that he and the nine others came in a boat from Karachi to carry out the attacks on the night of November 26. In the witness box, he described how he and slain terrorist Abu Ismail opened fire at VT.

"I was firing and Abu was hurling hand grenades," Ajmal told the court. "I was in front of Abu, who had taken such a position that no one could see him. I fired at a policeman after which there was no firing from the police side."
