Mahadeo Ramchandrappa Gauda, director of Merlion Conversion Labs Pvt Ltd, was arrested by the Airport police for allegedly cheating his employees by not depositing their employment provident fund (EPF) amount in the bank.

Merlion is a telecommunication software developing company. Another suspect, Ananda Aswantnaraina Rao, is on the run. Both suspects are residents of Bangalore.
Bhalchandra Baburao Borkar (58), an employee of the firm, registered a complaint with the police.

According to the police, both suspects are directors in the firm, located at Royal Tower in Vimannagar. They were deducting the mandatory amount from the salary of their workers as employee provident fund since April 2007 till November 2010.

According to the police, while a sum of Rs47,87,634 was deducted from the employees, the directors had not deposited Rs52,29,978, which was the company’s contribution, into the State Bank of India.

On being produced before the court of judicial magistrate (first class), MY Doiphode, the arrested suspect was remanded in police custody till October 18.
7 held for killing labourer

The Chatuhshrungi police on Wednesday arrested seven men in connection with the murder of a labourer, Shantaram Bablu Bomble.

They have been identified as Tanaji Siddheshwar Pandhare (21), Pandurang Goroba Kamble (35), Namdev Vaijnath Gaikwad (35), Umesh Prakash Digole (22), Amol Dattu Budange (19), Baliram Namdev Ambure (25) and Ram Narsing Digole (22), all residents of Sutarwadi in Pashan.
All the suspects have been remanded in police custody till October 15.
