With the rest of the state experiencing the winter chill on Thursday, Mumbai followed suit. Minimum temperature dropped more than a degree below normal temperatures in the suburbs. Curiously, the island city recorded a two degree rise in minimum temperature.

Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) data shows that the minimum temperature recorded at Santa Cruz was 1.1 degrees below normal. While the normal minimum temperature for the suburbs is 17.5 degrees Celsius, Thursday saw mercury dropping to 16.4 degrees Celsius.

At Colaba, the normal minimum temperature for this week is 19.8 degrees Celsius, while on Thursday, 21.8 degrees Celsius was recorded.

“The drop in temperatures is not very significant. It is being felt so strongly because the minimum temperature in the past two days saw a rise by two degrees above normal. We expect the minimum temperature to continue in this range over the weekend,” said VK Rajeev, director, IMD (Mumbai).

As per IMD, November and December are classified as a part of the ‘post-monsoon’ season and January and February as ‘winter season’.
