Maharashtra govt allots land for new airport at Navi Mumbai

The state government on Wednesday allotted at no cost around 250 hectares of land, which comprises 11 villages, to the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) for the Navi Mumbai Airport project.

Announcing this at the inaugural function of Seawoods-Darave flyover, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar said the government had given an exception in allotting its land free to ensure that there's no lapse on the part of Cidco.

"This airport is the need of the hour as the Mumbai International Airport is overburdened. People are looking forward to the completion of this project. The land has been given free of cost with an expectation that the Cidco will carry out quality work. If any Cidco official is found indulging in any wrongdoing, strict action will be taken and in case of good work, we will laud them and stand behind them," Pawar said.

Chief minister Prithviraj Chauhan said the clearance from the environment ministry has been obtained for the project and all that remains now is to address the grievance of the project affected people (PAP), which he assured would we looked into.

Applauding the Cidco's work, he added, "I hope that it will continue further as a lot more is to be achieved in making the city a truly planned city."
