Man returns jewellery worth Rs27 lakh in Mumbai

A fifty year-old man, who works as a peon at a private company, returned jewellery worth Rs27 lakh found in an empty local train compartment. The jewellery belonged to Viral Lathighara, 26, a jewellery shop owner at Marine Lines, who forgot his bag containing the jewellery in a Borivali fast local last week. 

According to the police, on May 14, Lathighara boarded the train with the bag and intended to give it to his firm in Surat the day after. He kept the bag on the rack above the seat in the first class compartment, and forgot to collect it as he alighted.

"However, Borivali resident Suresh Shankar Agre was in the
same compartment. He was the last person to alight and found the plastic bag. He took it home" said Borivali Railway police.

Lathighara realised his mistake only after he reached home. He went back to Borivali station but did not find the bag. He registered a complaint with the the Borivali railway police station.
Meanwhile, Agre opened the bag at home and received a shock.
Two days later, his son found an identity card in the bag. It was the college identity card of Lathighara's brother" said senior police inspector, P M Karyakarte of Borivali railway police station. Agre duly returned the bag to its owner.
