Developed by a Pune-based professor, the software has bagged the best innovation award of the year in Wharton
A city-based professor and director of technical studies at Amplify Mindware Academy for Development of Education & Research (AMADER), Anil Gupte has created a software platform that can be used for entertainment, movies, games or any kind of information content that needs to be distributed and monetised.
Gupte’s L3 technology has already won the best innovation award in the category of New Consumer Centric Innovations at the Wipro-Wharton Global Innovation Challenge 2011, held recently at University of Pennsylvania in Wharton, US.
Gupte was working on the technology for the last 5 years.
“The technology has already been awarded five patents for cross-platform video distribution, its algorithm and security features. It is now in data stage and I will launch it very soon,” said Gupte.
A graduate from IIT-Kharagpur, Gupte has been involved in Internet-based content delivery for the last ten years.
His primary experience has been in computer aided design, computer networking, along with LAN and WAN deployment, management and applications.
He has also spent several years of his career managing the development and delivery of software applications.
After living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, US, for 23 years, Gupte moved to Pune in 2007 and joined AMADER in 2008.
“My passion has always been teaching and I continue to teach management technology and web technology at the academy,” he said.
Talking about the salient features of his L3 technology, Gupte said, “It allows distribution of any kind of content without the fear of replication or piracy. One can download the software, encrypt their product and hand it out to anyone safely.
“L3 not only protects the content from piracy, but also allows content owners to charge a price for their content, linking its access to a commercial gateway.”
He added that if users don’t want to pay, they have the option to watch it for free, but with ads, so advertisers or sponsors pay instead.
Gupte said the L3 software can be used to embed advertisements or endorsements in a content. It also provides a movie or any video content free or at a subsidised rate to the interested users.
“AMADER has already integrated the L3 platform into its eLearning initiatives, allowing easy and secure distribution of learning content, to the students,” said Gupte.
With a belief that his L3 technology will address problems like piracy, cost of distribution, monetisation difficulties and global reach, Gupte said that his video protection technology will open up new market segments for independent films, semi-professional and amateur video makers.
