Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has decided to carry out work on its own rather than opting for the Public Private Partnership model to give a facelift to the 35-year-old Pimpri based Jijamata Hospital.
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to carry out work on its own rather than opting for the Public Private Partnership model to give a facelift to the 35-year-old Pimpri based Jijamata Hospital. PCMC’s decision comes in wake of protests from social activists and political parties against carrying out the project in accordance to the PPP.
PCMC mayor Yogesh Behl has given instruction to carry out the facelift work on its own.
The civic body has also cancelled the tender that it had floated inviting bids from private parties to carry out the work as per PPP model. It has tabled the proposal for approval in the general body meeting that will take place on January 20.
PCMC’s earlier plan was to convert the hospital into a multi-specialty one with the help of PPP. PCMC had planned to give the hospital on a 70-year lease to the developer.
The hospital, spread over 7,698 square feet area, was supposed to be demolished for the multi-specialty hospital. However the PPP model was strongly opposed on the grounds that it was more beneficial to the developer than the residents.
The members of the general body during a meeting on July 27 last year demanded withdrawal of PPP proposal and instead asked the civic body to renovate the hospital using its own resources. About Rs 15 crore is likely to be spent to give a facelift to the hospital.
Large number of local residents from Kalewadi, Pimpri, Pimpri camp, Rahatni, Pimple Saudagar used to visit the hospital for treatment. But due to lack of proper medical facilities, many have started visiting Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital thus
increasing pressure on the
latter.
