Power situation improves in Pune

Highlighting the improvement in power situation in the state, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (Mahadiscom) chief engineer (Pune zone), SP Nagtilak, said that load-shedding has been withdrawn in Pune city since last Sunday.

Speaking to DNA, Nagtilak said that the power utility has received additional power from the central feed and this would help maintain adequate power availability during Diwali.
During the last week, it was only on Thursday that power cuts were witnessed in some parts of the city due to repairs and maintenance work.

A Mahadiscom official said that Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities have been included in the A1 category from October 7 on the basis of distribution losses.

Therefore, load-shedding would be implemented in these cities only in exceptional cases.

Power consumers were deeply disappointed when the power utility company introduced load-shedding within three days after
including Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad in the A1 category.

However, in the last few days, citizens have been experiencing improvement in power supply. Mahadiscom had declared on October 7 that load-shedding in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad has been practically withdrawn although the power utility increased load-shedding duration in other parts of the state on Friday.
It said that power generation in the country has been adversely affected due to floods in Orissa, the Telangana agitation and flash strike by Coal India workers. Power generation has reduced significantly due to lack of sufficient coal. However, the power supply situation has improved now.
