The condition of Pravin Mahajan, serving life term for the murder of his brother and BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, who suffered brain haemorrhage is "very critical", and he was today put on life support system.

Pravin, 50, was admitted to the Jupiter Hospital here last night after he complained of fatigue and severe headache.

Dr Ravindra Gavat, in-charge of the ICU said, "There is no change in the neurological status of Mahajan. He is under medical management for releasing the pressure on the brain because of the blood clot."

Asked whether there was any possibility of a foul play, Gavat said, "Chances of foul play are ruled out as there is no external wound on his body. The cause of brain haemorrhage is probably hypertension."

"Pravin has suffered an extensive pontine haemorrhage (brain haemorrhage), and is currently on life support system. His condition continues to be critical, and he is deeply unconscious," the doctor said.

There has been no improvement in his condition since he was brought here yesterday, he said.

Pravin was found guilty of shooting his brother in Mumbai on April 22, 2006. Pramod succumbed to bullet injuries 12 days later.

He was awarded life imprisonment by a Mumbai court in December 2007 and lodged at the Nashik Central Jail. He was released on parole on November 27 reportedly on medical grounds.
