Police recovered gold and silver ornaments valued at Rs27 lakh from Ankush Laxman Lashkare possession.
The crime branch unit III claimed to have cracked 28 house-breaking cases by arresting Ankush Laxman Lashkare (25) and recovered gold and silver ornaments valued at Rs27 lakh from his possession.
The police also arrested a jeweller, Balu Tukaram Nagpure (40) of Ahmednagar, who used to buy the ornaments from him.
Deputy commissioner of police (cyber), Sanjay Shinde said that acting on a tip-off, a police team led by inspector of crime branch (unit-III), Mohan Vidhate laid a trap at Ahmednagar and nabbed Lashkare on October 19.
Shinde said that during interrogation, the suspect admitted he was involved in 28 house break-ins in the city and the cases include 19 from Sahakarnagar police station jurisdiction, two from Bharati Vidyapeeth police station, three from Sangvi and four from Pimpri police stations.
Shinde said he used to come from Ahmednagar, watch a movie and while returning, commit the crime.
Manager duped of Rs4L
The general manager of Ruby Hall Clinic, Shahji John, on Monday was duped of Rs4.72 lakh.
The amount, in his bank account at HDFC Bank, was illegally transferred through Internet banking.
John, a resident of Dhanvantari Colony, Wadgaonsheri, lodged a complaint against Shehanaaz Golandas, Jiveet Rohit D’souza and others. The police said John and his wife have a joint account at the HDFC Bank’s Boat Club Road branch.
On October 29, at 10.15 am, he got an SMS on his cellphone that Rs2,25,500 was transferred from his account to another account through real time gross settlement (RTGS) system. At 10.50 am, he got an SMS alert informing him of a similar transfer of Rs2,47,200.
He rushed to the HDFC Bank and then lodged a complaint naming two persons based out of Pune.
“Two days before the offence, John received a call from a man who stated he is from the bank and John shared his details with him,” the police said.
Retired cop found dead
The body of a retired police officer has been found in a water tank at Rajgad fort. The deceased was identified as Shankar Khamkar, a resident of Niwara housing society in Dhankavdi. A case of accidental death was filed.
