Pune crime branch re-arrest absconding jail inmate

The anti-dacoity cell of the city crime branch arrested an absconding murder suspect, Santosh Shivaji Rashinkar (21), on Wednesday morning at Barshi, in Solapur district.

Rashinkar escaped from Sassoon Hospital on April 4 last year, when he had been brought for medical check up. After fleeing from hospital Rashinkar took a Kanyakumari-bound train and went to Kerala.

According to the police, Rashinkar and his friends had killed a Sahakarnagar-based cable operator.

At that time, the city police had arrested seven suspects, including Rashinkar.

Senior police inspector Satish Govekar said, “Rashinkar was looking for accommodation in Solapur city but couldn’t secure one because he was asked for proof of identity. Later, he managed to rent a room in Barshi, where he called his wife.”

Rashinkar was dealing in second-hand motorcycles to support his family. Govekar said, “Acting on a tip-off, we managed to arrest Rashinkar.”
