Pune RTO plans new test to prevent copying

To prevent copying in the test for obtaining a learner’s licence, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has proposed a computerised test with random questions for each applicant.

Before handing over the learner’s licence to the applicant, the RTO conducts a test which comprises 10 questions, each with three options. A applicant has to score six marks to clear the test. It is mandatory that the applicant must be aware of traffic regulations.

At present, Orient Consultancy Service has designed a software which is being used from 2005 in Pune RTO office. As per the current system, 50 applicants sit in a room where a question is flashed on the screen in English and Marathi. The applicants have to click one of the three buttons in 10 seconds to register the
correct answer.

Due to this, the probable answer is discussed by all applicants before the button is clicked. To overcome this lacunae, the Pune RTO has sent a letter to the state government for sanctioning a new software, named Screen test aid for learner licence (Stall).

By installing this software, there will be random questions for different applicants. There won’t be any need to wait till there are 50 applicants in a room, and once an applicant finishes his/her examination, s/he can get a learner’s licence.

Regional transport officer Arun Yeola said, “Stall has been successfully implemented in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Karnataka. This system will help prevent copying. We are also discussing upgrading this software with other software firms.”
