Pune will host the 94th annual conference of Indian Economic Association (IEA), New Delhi, from December 27 to 29.

It has been organised by Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University (BVDU) on the university campus on Pune-Satara Road.  

At a press meet, organised on December 23 at Hotel Deccan Rendezvous, it was announced that the 3-day IEA conference’s topic is ‘Challenges of inclusive growth’.

The IEA conference will be inaugurated by Pranab Mukherjee, minister of finance. The presidential address will be delivered by Montek Singh Ahluwalia, deputy chairman, planning commission. Patangrao Kadam (chancellor, BVDU), Sukhadeo Thorat (president, IEA & chairman, Indian Council for Social Science Research) and Shivajirao Kadam (vice chancellor, BVDU), will also be present on the occasion.

Bharat Ratna, Noble Laureate and world-renowned economist, Amartya Sen, will be the guest of honour at the inaugural function of the IEA conference. He will also deliver a lecture under Prof Brahmanand Memorial lecture series.

Maharashtra chief minister, Prithviraj Chavan, will be the chief guest for the valedictory function to be held on December 29.

The conference will have four academic sessions on the following topics — Enhancing human resources for inclusive growth, employment and welfare; Elements of sustainable growth and transformation; Market reforms for efficiency and inclusiveness; Governance reforms through decentralisation. A book exhibition will also be organised on the occasion. 

Over 700 research papers will be presented in the IEA conference, which will be attended by economists and delegates from India and abroad.
