RFTs for 5000 cameras to be issued: Home Department

The Home Department made an elaborate presentation about the proposed CCTV surveillance network proposed for the city before the state cabinet on Wednesday. The cabinet was told that the Request For Tenders (RFT) will be issued for the Rs600 crore project for the 5000 cameras in the city in next couple of days.
The cabinet was apprised with the technology and network witnessed in the London during the recent visit of the high power team led by Home Minister RR Patil. The department has set up committees of the technological experts to decide on the technology to be adopted for the network for the Mumbai city. A team of top police officials also have been appointed, under the chairmanship of the Mumbai police commissioner. It has finalise the spots at which the CCTVs are to be installed.
Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan told the department to expedite the tendering procedure and set up the network at the earliest. He was told that the expressions of interests have already been invited and the RFTs will be issued in next couple of days.
The department has decided to incorporate newer technologies and make applicable changes after the London tour, the cabinet was told. The department has decided to install nearly 2000 cameras in the first phase and go in rising the number of cameras to 5000 in phase manner.
