A Sangli businessman, Ashraf Yakub Sharief (36), was robbed of Rs2.8 lakh by an unidentified person in the restroom of a Toyota showroom in Bavdhan on Tuesday. Sharief, who was travelling with his friends to Gujarat, stopped at the showroom for tyre repairs. He hung his bag containing the cash on the restroom door and forgot about it.

An hour later, when he remembered and went to retrieve it, the bag was missing. The Hinjewadi police interrogated three employees of the showroom, but that yielded no clue. The CCTV cameras in the showroom were not working at the time.

Datta Mane aide murdered
In an apparent  incident of gang war, a group of people allegedly laid a trap and murdered 32-year-old Dnyaneshwar Shivaji Jadhav, a resident of Telco Colony in Ambegaon Budruk, in the early hours of Wednesday. Police said that Jadhav was the cousin of Datta Mane, president of the Maratha Yodha group, who is the prime accused in the murder of Baiju alias Pramod Baban Navghane (26), a resident of Balajinagar. Navghane was the leader of the rival Ganraj group of Lottery Mandi area of Dhankavdi.

Police suspect that the unidentified assailants followed Jadhav when returning home on his two-wheeler via Jambhulwadi Road in Dattanagar. The assailants laid a trap and attacked him brutally with sharp-edged weapons and sticks, causing his death. Jadhav was taken to a hospital, but was pronounced brought dead. The Haveli police despatched two teams in search of the suspects.

3 arrested for abetting suicide
The court of judicial magistrate first class, SM Padolikar, on Wednesday remanded three arrested suspects, including two women, in police custody till January 16 in connection with abetment to suicide of a couple.

Sarika Sanjay Jadhav (42), Sanjay Anandrao Jadhav (42) and Ranjana Vijay Shah (49)  had threatened the couple to file a police complaint if they failed to pay Rs3 lakh against the principal amount of Rs1 lakh. Unable to pay the loan, Archana Nimkar (32) and her husband Ravindra (42) of  Balajinagar in Dhankavdi, committed suicide in a Shirdi-based lodge on Friday evening.
