The Socialist Party (India) would be staging satyagraha to highlight the need for the government to address problems of the common man, including farmers.

The president of the party, Bhai Vaidya, told reporters on Thursday that the cadres of the party would stage a peaceful agitation in different parts of the country for 12 days from October 2.

Bhai Vaidya demanded that the new Land Acquisition Bill passed by the Union cabinet be scrapped. “The Bill aims to facilitate the corporates to acquire agricultural land, thus creating problems for the farming community,” he stated.

The party is also opposed to privatisation and corporatisation of education, since children living below the poverty line would be deprived of good education.

“We also want the government to focus on issues like rehabilitation of tribals staying in forests, distribution of subsidised food grains, privatisation of hospitals and strict implementation of 50% reservation for women in all sectors,” Bhai Vaidya added.
