The Supreme Court will decide on January 8 whether to hear the petition filed by advocate Ajay Agrawal seeking the court’s direction to the Central Bureau of Investigation to recover the laptop belonging to Abdul Karim Telgi, the prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper case.

In October, Agrawal had filed a PIL seeking independent probe into the allegation that Ashok Chavan, the then revenue minister, had received Rs10 lakh as bribe from Telgi.

During the hearing before a bench of chief justice KG Balakrishnan, Agrawal stressed the need for speedy dispensation of his application. The court rejected his plea for an urgent hearing.

Additional solicitor-general Parag Tripathy objected to Agrawal’s plea saying the matter relating to the scam was already pending in different courts. He also rubbished the charge that Chavan was involved in the case.

The laptop was seized from Sanna, Telgi’s daughter, in 2003 and is currently in a forensic lab in Hyderabad.
