The Vishrantwadi police have booked two persons for culpable homicide for producing a fake death certificate issued by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), of a man which caused his death. The ailing man, Prafulla Gaikwad, who was fighting a dispute over land in the court, expired on Friday evening.

The booked suspects have been identified as Pavan Sadashiv Misal (36) of Mujaba Wasti, Dhanori and RR Sonawane of Shivajinagar.

A complaint has been filed by Sanjeev Chandrasen Gaikwad (36) of Mumbai with the Vishrantwadi police station.

According to the police, Prafulla, after his retirement, purchased land near his house. One day, he found that one Pawan Misal had started construction work on his land. When he asked Misal to stop the work, Misal told him that he had purchased the land and produced the sale deed and 7/12 extract of the land. Gaikwad lodged a complaint of cheating against Misal at the Vishrantwadi police station in 2010.

Misal went to the court to claim the ownership of the land. Meanwhile, Gaikwad fell ill and was bedridden and Sanjay fought the case on his behalf. However, a few weeks ago, the opposite party produced Prafulla’s death certificate in the court. Seeing his own death certificate, Prafulla fainted and his health deteriorated further.

Since then, the Gaikwad family was making the rounds of the PMC to prove that he was alive. However, he died on Friday evening.
