Workshop held for visually challenged children in Pune

Celebrating the 131st birth anniversary of Helen Keller, Amway Opportunity Foundation (AOF), the corporate social responsibility arm of Amway, made the day memorable for the visually challenged children of Poona School and Home for Blind Trust (PSHBT).

A workshop was arranged for these visually challenged children in providing guidance to enhance their communication skills and personality development on Monday. PSHBT has been AOF’s partner under the National Project for the Blind and Project Sunrise for over a year now.

Administration head of PSHBT Sharmila Gujar said,  “Helen Keller has always been an inspiration for the visually challenged. There was no better day to organise something like this for these children.’’

The human resources (HR) manager of Amway India, Bhakti Dalvi, who organised the two-hour workshop, said she was apprehensive whether she could relate to the children. “But my inhibitions ended with the response I got. These visually challenged children were very keen to learn and the best thing is they understand the value of listening,’’ Dalvi told DNA.

During the workshop, games like Chinese whispers and interactive sessions were organised. Basic lessons in verbal and non-verbal communication were also taught to the students.

“We will remember the lessons Dalvi madam taught us. The workshop has increased our confidence,’’ class X  student of PSHBT, Gorak Ghanwate, told DNA.
