Stop the aid

Stop the aid
British prime minister David Cameron’s statement that Pakistan could not be allowed to harbour militants and promote terror against India, Afghanistan and the rest of the world is appreciable.

He had also said that US president Barack Obama was in full agreement with him on Pakistan. However, such statements have little meaning for Pakistan.

The edit ‘We need action, not words, Mr Cameron’, (DNA, July 30) has rightly said that Pakistan would not have been able to export terror anywhere had it not been for the support — tacit or otherwise — it has received from the UK and the US. Investigations revealed ISI and Lashkar-e-Tayaba hand in Mumbai terror attack. Besides UK, it is high time for the US to review its Pakistan policy and stop providing massive financial and military aid to Pakistan for war on terror.

CWG corruption
This is with reference to Aiyar imposes C’wealth Games gag on himself (DNA, July 30), the startling revelations that 14 projects related to the Games being probed by CBI show the enormity of corruption involved. A detailed probe must be conducted and the corrupt officials must be brought to book. The estimated budget for the CWG is expected to go overboard by Rs11,200cr. After all, spending tax payers’ money without underlying principle of accountability is nothing short of committing fraud. Perhaps former sports minister Mani Shankar Aiyar would have the last laugh.

Funding terror
The American policymakers seem to have realised now what has been an open secret in the international community for the last couple of decades. The large chunk of the billions of dollars, given by the White House as economic as well as military aid, has been clandestinely passed on by  successive Pakistan rulers to the numerous Muslim terrorist groups operating against the western interests from different countries. Their aim is to wage war against the American forces deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. It, therefore, is a strange spectacle to see the US soldiers getting killed by the weapons bought from the arms markets utilising the funds given by the Pentagon itself.
