Activists plan rally for regularisation of illegal constructions in PCMC area

Reacting to the uncertainty regarding the issue of unauthorised constructions, political activists and citizens groups in Pimpri Chinchwad area have decided to stir up the issue again. They have planned a massive rally to Nagpur during winter assembly session in December.

The rally will be held for the demand of regularisation of illegal construction in Pradhikaran (Pimpri Chinchwad New Township Development Authority), MIDC area. The opposition parties, including Shiv Sena, Bhartiya Janata Party, RPI and Nagari Hakka Suraksha Samiti will take part in the protest march.

Shiv Sena group leader in PCMC house Shrirang Barane on Monday said, “Earlier this year , on July 29, we had organised a protest march to the state legislature. There was a huge participation in the protest march. The government has promised us a positive decision regarding unauthorised constructions. But government has failed to keep this promise. So we have forced to take up this issue once again.”

Barne added, “There are records that there are 1.34 lakh illegal constructions in the city. A recent survey conducted by PCMC revealed that there are another 1.5 lakh illegal structures in the city. It means there are total 3 lakh illegal constructions in the city. Since these structures have come up after 2008, the owners of these construction have to pay penalties as per the government rule. We demanded that this penalties should be cancelled. Our struggle with the government will be on till the government does not take positive decision about these constructions.”

11 meetings to gather public support
The opposition parities have organised 11 meetings at different locations in the PCMC area in order to create awareness about the issue of illegal constructions. These rallies will be held at different places from November 21 to December 5 at 5.30 pm every day. The venues for the meetings will be Sane chowk Chikhali, Chakrapani Colony, Bhosari, Rameshwar Mandir Rupeenagar, Vikasnagar Kivale, Sai chowk Sangvi, Sadguru Colony Wakad, Ambedkar chowk Dapodi and Near Shivaji Statue Dange Chowk.
