Cable operators ride on Big B

With Amitabh’s illness, the cable operators in the city are cashing in on the craze of Amitabh’s fans. Thus Bachchan’s illness has now become a godsend for cable operators across the city.

The list of Amitabh’s movies being broadcast includes Baghban, Zanjeer, Sholay, Deewar, Khuda Gawah, Kala Patthar, Virudh, Kalia, Khakhee, Sarkar, Agnipath, Waqt, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Anand, Coolie and Dev.

The cable operators, covering the areas between Dahisar and Malad, have repeatedly broadcast Baghban, Zanjeer, Kalia, Sholay, Agnipath, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Shahenshah, Coolie and Anand, in the past five days.

Cable consumers from Andheri to Bandra have been watching Baghban, Zanjeer, Kalia, Sarkar, Khakhee, Deewar and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

Movies like Khuda Gawah, Zanjeer, Kala Patthar, Baghban and Virudh are favourites for people staying on the Harbour Line.

Central Line residents have been watching Baghban, Waqt, Zanjeer, Deewar, Sarkar, Kala Patthar, and Coolie.

The movie mania is not without reason.  President of Cable Operators’ Association Anil Parab said, “Cable operators are cashing in on  Amitabh’s illness.”

“We have received more than 300 calls asking for Amitabh movies in the last five days,” said Shivaji Baviskar, a cable operator who operates between Powai and Chembur. The cable operators say that they are only catering to the demand of their customers. Hitesh Azan, a cable operator in Borivili said that his group received more than 100 calls in the past two days for the superstar’s movies.
