NEW DELHI: Sting journos beware. Your likely targets are arming themselves with the latest gadgets that may now be used against you.

Believe it or not, the enquiries about anti-spy camera devices have increased manifold after Operation Duryodhan-- the sting operation that open the whole cash for question scam.

"While earlier there were two inquiries in a month on debuggers and mobile jammers, it has increased to two inquiries per day after the Parliament sting operation," says Rawani Gopal of E-Secure India, a security and integrated solutions company, which deals in a complete range of security systems such as surveillance equipment, detection, alarming and communications equipment, gates automation equipment, and anti spy camera devices (de-buggers).

Though Rawani does not disclose the exact identity of the people who are enquiring about these devices, he concedes it is coming from all quarters.

And the providers of these devices have now smelt blood. "Operation Duryodhan has made us realise that there is this huge untapped market for such devices. And we should go for the kill," says a consultant in this field.

So how big is the market for these devices in India? "It should be in in the region of hundred of crore," says Venkat, of T S Informatics, a consultancy in security devices."The demand for security devices has increased with the opening of the market.

But then again it was limited to home security devices. But of late, with sting operations being the order of the day, the demand for spy cams have increased.

And with increase in demand for spy cams, the demand for anti-spy cam devices have shot up," says Venkat.

The bug stops here

There are two types of anti spy camera devices

One is a debugger: A remote controlled device with an antennae. It detects any radio frequency that would be emitted by any device like a spy camera or mobile camera (wireless spy cameras emit radio frequency to the recorder which is placed some distance away from the camera)

These debuggers come in the range of Rs 1 lakh to 1.25 lakh.

Another device is the mobile jammer : Jammers can stop any device recording video or audio. They can also  be used to interrupt mobile phones. These cost anything between Rs 40,000 to Rs 1 lakh
