Her eyes, as beguiling as her name, catch your attention the moment you meet her! And one look at her son, Adam Bedi and you know it’s all in the genes.

Ixchel Susan Leigh was born and brought up in California. There, during a stint with the fashion industry, she met Kabir Bedi. They hit it off from the very start.

“We dated each other for two months before I travelled to India for the first time. That was way back in 1978. And when I returned to the US, Kabir asked me to marry him.
A little over a year and a half later, Adam was born,” she recalls fondly.

“We continued living in the US. Kabir spent most of his time travelling; so Adam spent most of his time with me,” she continues. “Staying back at home was a conscious decision.”

As she recalls more, her voice lowers to a whisper, “I don’t know what happened; we just grew apart. Then we separated after five years of marriage. But, we did not seek divorce for another two years. Adam was only three years then. We both loved our son very much and we decided that whatever happened between us would never affect Adam’s life and we would always be there by his side”

“I did not know my dad so well in the early years of life,” says Adam, “so I decided to come to India. I wanted to know my roots. At the end of my vacation, my dad and sister Pooja suggested on getting a portfolio and staying back to check avenues. It’s been five years and there has been no looking back. My father became my mentor; best friend, room mate and guide.”

Adam admits that it is Kabir Bedi’s name which is his platform in the industry. “He has trained me to face this world confidently,” adds Adam.

After being married and divorced twice, after having raised a son single handedly and set up a business all by her self, Ixchel is still as full of life as ever. “I want to fall in love and get married again. I am looking for a life partner who can connect at all levels,” says Adam’s mother. “And I hope that my next marriage lasts the next 50 years!” she concludes.
