Nissar Trophy to be instituted

LAHORE: We have the Ranji Trophy, the Duleep Tophy and now we have the Nissar Tophy. The name will be given to the trophy that the domestic champions of India and Pakistan will play annually.

Mohammed Nissar, who bowled India’s first ball in Test cricket in 1932, will finally get an honour long due.

“The Indian and Pakistan cricket boards have decided to name the trophy after my late father,” said Nissar’s son Waqar, who lives in Lahore.

“To the best of my knowledge, it has been decided to play the annual match in memory of my father, one year in India and the next year in Pakistan.”

Sialkot region have emerged as the Pakistani champions by defeated Faisalabad Region to win the Gold League, the upper division of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. The Ranji Trophy winner will be known on Feb 3.
