PATNA: The Nitish Kumar Government has formulated a multi-pronged strategy to check the growth of naxalism in the state.

Besides taking up intensive development schemes in the areas under the influence of Left-wing extremist outfits, the government has also decided to hold early trial of the massacre cases in which dalits and the poor were killed by the Ranveer Sena, a private militia of upper caste peasantry.

The government is of the view that delayed trial of massacre cases, particularly those in which the victims are poor, provide a good opportunity to the extremist outfits to spread anti-government propaganda.

As it is, the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC), has been charging the state administration of being anti-poor and adopting a double standard in conducting the trial of massacre cases in central Bihar. According to them, prompt trial was carried out at the initiative of the state government to punish the accused of  some of the carnage cases in which the upper caste people were killed by the naxals, but the cases of carnage carried out by the Ranveer Sena are still awaiting trial.

The new government has already identified 369 cases of such nature, which require speedy trial to check the growth the Maoist propaganda and prevent their kangaroo courts in the villages. Chief Secretary G S Kang said that the government would soon be making a request to Patna High Court for early trial of all these cases identified as sensitive. The government’s new slogan for the under-developed areas and under-privileged sections of the society is ‘Sarkaar Aapke Dwaar’ (Government at your doorstep).

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will kick start this programme on January 21, by going to the naxal-affected villages of Jehanabad and Arwal and laying foundation stone for a market yard and a computer-training centre at village Sikaria. Subsequently many other development schemes would be taken up in all the naxal-affected areas in a phased manner.
