DUBAI: Al Jazeera International, the English version of the Arab news channel Al Jazeera, is slated to go on air by May.

"The channel will cover the entire globe and hire local journalists in regional bureaux to give a local flavour and depth to coverage," Nigel Parsons, Managing Director of Al Jazeera International said.

The channel plans to have broadcast centres in London, Kuala Lumpur and Washington DC, apart from Doha - where its parent channel is based.

"The new network will follow the fearless style of reporting of Al Jazeera and introduce this unique brand of journalism to the West and other regions in the world, but would not carry mere translations of the Arabic-language coverage," Parsons told The Peninsula daily on Saturday.

While Doha will carry signals for 12 hours, the remaining 12 hours will be split between the other three broadcast centres, he said.
