Mallika Sherawat may be shying away from interviews with the mainline press in India, but apparently she doesn’t mind courting the foreign media whenever the opportunity presents itself.
The actor recently did interviews with American news major ABC News and for Al Jazeera’s soon-to-be launched English channel. Interestingly, the interview with ABC News is part of a special feature on the changing scenario in India for which even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been interviewed.
Mallika’s interview, to be aired on the show ‘Good Morning America’, is part of a segment focusing on Indian culture. It would have been unthinkable to do that without incorporating Bollywood. Only two personalities from Bollywood — Asha Bhosle and Mallika Sherawat — have been interviewed.
The crew from ABC News even came to see Mallika rehearsing for her two songs in ‘Shaadi Se Pehle’ last week. According to sources, the channel was impressed with Mallika’s ability to be “so confident and yet be able to laugh at herself.”
Mallika answered questions on cinema, Indian culture and Indians living abroad. But, like a true patriot, Mallika had one condition for doing the interviews — “It should not be condescending to India.”
