What was an exciting battle for the final three positions in ‘Indian Idol 2’, turned out to be a shocking incident when contestant Amey Date (Mumbai) was voted out in the audience poll.

The judges, Farah Khan, Sonu Nigam and Anu Malik,  staged a walk-out along with the audience and demanded for a “re-match”. Amey, who was the most popular contestant lost out to NC Karunye, Anuj Sharma and Sandeep Acharya.

Judge Anu Malik says, “We were absolutely shocked. Amey is a terrific singer. It’s sad that he has been voted out. What is more shocking is that Anuj who was being asked to improve his singing scored over Amey.” So is there any chance of a re-match? “It’s not practical because there is a strict format for the show.” Anu points out, “It’s a game-show and anything can happen. It’s important to be talented but luck should also be on your side.”

Amey, who walked up to the audience and asked them to calm down says, “It’s after all a game. One person has to be eliminated every week. This time it was my turn.”

Though Amey admits that he was also shocked by the results, he says, “I did not expect this. But when I saw the reaction and love of the audience and judges, I realised I had achieved a lot more. I know the rules and have no complaints.” Amey has been offered by Anu Malik to sing in his next project.
