Hugo is the boss

MUMBAI: The Imtiaz Sait-trained Hugo Boss provided a thrilling afternoon for his connections with a short head verdict over favourite Dynasty in the Kilshannig Plate over seven furlongs at the Mahalaxmi race course here. Fire God went to the lead as the five horses broke from the gates. Dynasty sat in second with Hugo Boss in third.

The second favourite, Queen Victoria, jumped awkwardly and had to brushed up to join the pack as they made their way to the home straight. As the field straightened up, it was Dynasty who made the first move and took over the running. But Hugo Boss was always going well and PS Chouhan, who was on top of him, brought the big gelding alongside the filly. Meanwhile, overcoming her hiccup at the start, Queen Victoria began to find her best racing legs and challenged the duo as they ran towards the winning post.

As the lead changed at least five times in the last 100 yards, Hugo Boss and Dynasty flashed past the post together with Queen Victoria a mere half length behind. In fact, it was impossible to conclusively tell with the naked eye as to who had won. A few minutes later, the judge announced the result and Hugo Boss was declared the boss.

Dynasty and Queen Victoria will now go to the one thousand guineas on December 10. Hugo Boss will get an enforced rest as he burst a blood vessel and bled through the nose.
