LONDON: Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar regaled their wedding guests with a Bollywood-style movie of themselves on Saturday during a daylong celebration at a grand 15th century castle in Gloucestershire.

In place of the usual formal speeches and toasts at a traditional English marriage banquet, the newly-wed Nayars showed their 250-odd guests a movie of their own love story, shot during their last trip to India, complete with the couple singing and dancing round trees to famous Hindi songs.

The lavish celebrations at Sudeley Castle came the day after the couple hoodwinked the paparazzi hiding in the bushes, by holding an unexpected, secret civil marriage ceremony witnessed by only a handful of closest family and friends. Nayar, the half-Indian, half-German son of a textile tycoon paid 250 pounds for a superintendent registrar and her assistant to conduct a secret ceremony inside the castle on Friday.

The Saturday bash began with a Christian blessing at St Mary’s Church on the castle grounds. The 41 year-old bride wore a stunning off-white, sleeveless, V-necked dress with frou-frou frills at the bottom provided by designer Donatella Versace, and a simple veil kept in place by a lavish diamond tiara from jeweler Chopard of Bond Street.
Hurley was escorted down the aisle by pop icon Sir Elton John, who gave her away. Ten pageboys in breeches and five bridesmaids in cream dresses followed her.

The 43 year-old groom looked dashing in a black dinner suit. The couple exchanged traditional vows and Nayar overcome by nerves, accidentally said ‘throat’ instead of ‘betrothed’. Hurley’s five-year-old son, Damian held his mother’s hand throughout the service. “Liz was so overcome with emotion that she broke down in tears as she took her vows,” an anonymous guest told British tabloids.

The very private ceremony had guests from UK’s celebrity ‘A’ list but there was no sign of Hurley’s ex-boyfriend actor Hugh Grant. Though Grant was invited to the wedding he did not attend. The publicity rights for the wedding have been bought by Hello! magazine for a fee of 2 million pounds.

The religious ceremony was followed by a medieval banquet, styled on a feast served at the same castle to King Henry VIII and his sixth wife Catherine Parr. This was accompanied by 200 bottles of vintage champagne. A four-tiered cake was cut by the happy couple and served by liveried footmen in green velvet suits.

Yesterday night the couple flew off to India for the second leg of their marriage accompanied by about 24 guests from Britain.
