NEW DELHI: Security at the Taj Mahal in Agra has been upgraded after intelligence inputs pointed to a threat to one of the seven wonders of the world.

Coordination with the local police and other security agencies was also being done to provide a foolproof system to ward off any danger to the historic monument, Central Industrial Security Force Director General SIS Ahmed said on Wednesday.

"Security from the Yamuna side was also being fortified to prevent any chinks in the system and safeguard the Taj Mahal from any likely attack. Special steps have been taken after intelligence reports indicated of a likely attack on it."

In view of the Taj Mahal coming in the 'high sensitive installations' category like that of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Kalapakkam Power Station, Narora Atomic Power Centre, several other unique steps, besides the regular CCTVs, suspect monitoring, frisking and metal detectors, have also been initiated which are regularly being upgraded, he added.
