NEW DELHI:  Sleuths of the Delhi Police are in tizzy after a Rajya Sabha member of parliament (MP) received a hand-written letter in Marathi, allegedly from a Bajrang Dal member, threatening to target the MP’s rallies in Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country.

“I was receiving threat calls for sometime now, but never took them seriously,” Mahmood Madani, an MP of the Rashtriya Lok Dal, said.

“But, after I got this letter I realised it was time to contact the police. I have received three threat calls and letter in the past ten days,” he said.

The writer claims to be an active member of the Bajrang Dal and has threatened to target Madani’s rallies, public meeting and conferences.

“At first, I did not pay much attention to these calls, but after returning from Mumbai when I received this letter in Marathi, I realised that there could be more into these threat calls and letter,” said Madani, who was touring parts of western Uttar Pradesh, when contacted over the phone.

“If you do not stop conducting these conferences then you will have to pay a price. We will plant bombs in your public rallies,” the letter states.

The Delhi Police registered a complaint nearly three days ago, but are yet to find any leads in the incident.

“Right now, we have filed a complaint against unknown person, because we do not know who has sent the letter,” said an official investigating the case.

“The letter could well be a prank being played on the MP, but we are not taking any chances. We have asked the postal department to help us trace the origins of the letter. If there is a need, we would also question the members of the Bajranj Dal in Delhi,” he added.
