CDI in $20m co-production agreement

MUMBAI: Compact Disc India (CDI) has signed a $20.15 million deal with Los Angeles-based Hollywood production company, Motion Pixel Corporation, for a 50:50 co-production of a 90-minute animation feature film. The soccer-based film Goaaaaal! revolves around Brazilian footballer Ronaldo. It will be released in 2010 during the Fifa World Cup.

Suresh Kumar, chairman, CDI, said, “CDI has two lines of businesses, animation and infrastructure. We diversified into the animation business three years ago. Today, 80% of our revenue is generated from. In 2006, we generated approximately Rs 50 crore as revenue. We are currently working on two 2D and 3D animation assignments worth $40 million. These projects have been contracted to CDI studios in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Chennai. CDI has been successfully listed on NSE and BSE .”

For Goaaaaal! CDI will be involved in the production and post-production activities. While the pre-production including scripting, voice over will be handled by Motion Pixel. The voice-over will be done by Hollywood actors like Ben Kingsley, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Douglas,  Samuel L Jackson, Christina Aguilera among others.
