CHANDIGARH: Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday stayed the arrest of BIS Chahal, media advisor to former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, till Thursday in connection with the Ludhiana City Centre scam.
Justice Uma Nath Singh while pronouncing the order also directed the Punjab government to file an affidavit through Director of Vigilance giving details as to in how many cases Chahal was wanted.
Amarinder and 18 others were booked on March 18 for allegedly violating all norms in patronising and abetting the dilution of terms and conditions for favouring a particular party in the city centre project.
Chahal also appeared in the High Court in connection with a contempt case slapped on him for the alleged disappearance of a file relating to the selection of Deputy Superintendents of Police, including his son Bikramjit.
The Court also directed him not to go out of the jurisdiction of the court comprising Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh without prior permission.
The court had on May 9 issued bailable warrants against him after he failed to appear on that day despite repeated notices.
Chahal, through his counsel, was repeatedly seeking exemption from personal appearance in view of his ill health and medical treatment in Glasgow in Scotland.
