Goa political scene shifted to national capital

PANAJI: Goa political scene has shifted to New Delhi for the time being, with a majority of legislators, including Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, planning their trip to the national capital on Tuesday.

While Chief Minister Digamber Kamat was scheduled to leave by early morning flight to brief high command about happenings on the floor of the House yesterday, Parrikar will fly along with all the supporting legislators to seek appointment with President Pratibha Patil.

"All Goa Democratic Alliance legislators will fly to Delhi at 3 pm," a GDA spokesman told.

He said GDA members will meet President again and parade their strength briefing her how democracy was "butchered" in Goa Assembly.

The GDA has also planned to move the Supreme Court, challenging the floor test conducted by Chief Minister in the state legislative assembly.

Kamat government, was plunged into minority after its alliance partner Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) withdrew support and resignation of its lady legislator Victoria Fernandes, survived the floor test on Monday.

The Opposition, however, has challenged the floor test, stating that the Speaker had conducted it in an "incorrect way" and sought Governor S C Jamir's intervention in the matter.
