Heavy rains lash Mumbai

MUMBAI: Normal life was thrown out of gear yet again as incessant rains continued to lash the metropolis on Tuesday.

Suburban rail services on the Harbour, Central and Western lines were running late by 15-20 minutes due to water logging of tracks and poor visibility at King Circle, Vadala, Lower Parel and Elphinstone stations.

Road traffic was also disrupted due to poor visibility and heavy rains. Vehicular traffic was seen moving bumper to bumper at Hutatma Chowk, J J flyover and at the Bandra-Borivili S V road.

Flight services from the Chatrapti Shivaji Terminal were also disrupted due to poor visibility at the runway.

The total rainfall recorded in the city for the last 24 hours till 8.30am this morning was 9.4 mm at Colaba in south Mumbai and 7.5 mm at Santacruz in north Mumbai.

Meanwhile, weather bureau has warned heavy falls with possibility of spells of rain or thundershowers to hit parts of the city and suburbs in the next 24 hours or so.

Heavy rainfall at a few places with very heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely to occur in the districts of Thane, Raigad, Ghat areas and over all the districts of South Konkan areas during the next 24 hours.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over madhya Maharashtra (except the districts of Pune, Ahmednagar, Solapur, and Sangli) during the same period.

The MET department has issued a 'port warning' to fisherman on the Maharashtra-Goa coast against venturing into the high seas.
