Jagdale, Biswal for ODI series

MUMBAI: The Indian team in England will be joined by two national selectors. East Zone’s Ranjib Biswal and Central’s Sanjay Jagdale have been asked to go to England for the seven-match ODI series. The first match of the NatWest series will be held at Rose Bowl, Southampton, on August 21. Both will be part of the tour selection committee.

However, it is unlikely that Jagdale and Biswal will be able make it to Southampton before the start of the first match. It is learnt that the two selectors will leave for England after attending the Special General Meeting in Mumbai on August 21.

Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) sources confirmed to DNA that Biswal will be its representative at the SGM. “He will proceed to England after attending the SGM,” an OCA official told DNA. Jagdale, however, said he is undecided over attending the SGM.

“My original plan is to leave on August 21. I’m not sure whether it will be after or before the SGM,” the senior-most selector told DNA.

Interestingly enough, the two national selectors will be attending the SGM which has been called to decide among other things qualification for the national selectors.

In fact, the SGM is expected to pass proposed changes which do not allow selector to hold a post in any state association.

Biswal is the president of the OCA and Jagdale is the secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association. Chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar was with the team during the just-concluded Test series.
