Experts say hopes rest in revision petition

JODHPUR: As Salman prepares to spend his first night in the dim interiors of barrack number 1.5 in the Jodhpur Central Jail, his lawyers continue to try all means to bring temporary relief to the actor.

So what is in store for Bollywood’s original bad boy?

Though the actor tried to evade a non-bailable arrest issued by the District and Sessions Court on Friday through a last-minute surrender, the actor’s arrest by the Jodhpur police, immediately upon his arrival at the Jodhpur airport, rules out the option.

For any form of reprieve, Salman will have to approach the Rajasthan High Court. His counsel Hastimal Saraswat has already moved a revision petition in the Rajasthan High Court against the Sessions court order.

However, since Sunday is a court holiday, the bail application is likely to be heard only on Monday. Further delay can also be expected as Tuesday is a local holiday in the state on account of Rakshabandhan celebrations. Khan is likely to spend another three nights as prisoner number 343. Salman has been found guilty under Section 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Any attempt at seeking a bail will be made tougher by the presence of circumstantial evidence.

Judge VR Singhvi said circumstantial evidence is important in this case as it constitutes a chain that “loudly says a crime was committed”, he said.
