Minor girl falls from 7th floor
A 16-year-old girl died after she fell from the terrace of a seven-storeyed building in Powai on Sunday night.
Priya Rao (name changed), who stays in a ground floor flat in Trinity Building, went to the building’s terrace from where she fell.
Priya’s mother heard a loud thud and went outside to see her daughter lying in a pool of blood. With the help of security guards, she rushed Priya to the nearby Hiranandani Hospital. Doctors declared her dead on arrival.
While police have registered a case of accidental death, they have not ruled out suicide. A probe has been ordered to look into the reasons behind Priya’s death. According to a senior officer with the Powai police, Priya’s parents and a few others who were close to Priya will be questioned.
Priya was a standard X student at St Xaviers’ School in Bhandup. In their statement to the police, Priya’s parents said that they had seen their daughter leaving home at 8.30pm. However, the parents did not notice anything suspicious about her behaviour or the way she acted.
Priya’s body has been sent to Rajawadi Hospital for post-mortem. “There aren’t any witnesses in the case. Once we get the post-mortem report we will decide the course of our investigation,” said Sanjay Joshi, police sub-inspector with the Powai police.
A neighbour said that Priya was a nice and studious girl. Her death had shocked the entire building.
‘Heartbreak’ pushes cop’s son to brink
Deepak Waghmare, the 28-year-old son of a senior inspector who had died while on duty two years ago, fell to death from the terrace of a four-storeyed building in Kandivili’s police quarters on Monday.
Though police have registered a case of accidental death, they suspect that Deepak may have been driven to commit suicide due to a failed love affair. A police official said Deepak, a graduate in hotel management who ran a fast food restaurant in the suburbs, climbed to the terrace of the building at 11.30 am.
His body was found in a pool of blood at the police quarters compound where the Kandivili police station is also located. Incidentally, Deepak used to be a resident in the very police compound up until his father’s death in 2005. Residents rushed him to Bhagwati Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
“We are questioning his friends whom he would come to meet regularly in the police quarters. A few of them said he was seeing a girl. Further investigations are on,” said Surendrakumar Jaiswal, senior police inspector with the Kandivili police.
After Deepak’s father Bajrang, a senior inspector with the Crime Investigation Department (CID) died two years ago, Deepak’s elder brother
Sunil moved to Marol along with their mother. Deepak had been living by himself in a rented flat near the Poinsur Gymkhana since 2005.
