MUMBAI: Nothing is going right for Mumbai at the moment. Playing their crucial fifth round match against Rajasthan in Jhalavar, defending champions’ decision to bat first backfired as Rajasthan fast bowler Pankaj Singh scalped a five-wicket haul to restrict them on 290 for 9 on the opening day of the four day Super League Ranji Trophy tie on Sunday.
An injury-struck Mumbai side did not have a great start as they lost their three crucial wickets quickly.
However, Rahane and Rohit Sharma steadied the Mumbai innings by putting up a brave 93-run stand for the fourth wicket. But once Rahane was out Sharma followed him soon, leaving Mumbai in trouble.
Last-game centurion Ramesh Powar (54) later rescued Mumbai from rough waters, adding a 66-run stand with all-rounder Abhishek Nair (20) for the sixth wicket.
