Ganguly seventh Indian to play 100 Tests

MELBOURNE: Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday became the seventh Indian cricketer to play 100 Tests when he took the field in the first match of the series against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Ganguly is the oldest Indian to reach the milestone at the age of 35 years and 171 days.

Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Anil Kumble, Dilip Vengsarkar and Rahul Dravid are the other Indians to have played 100 Tests.

He is the third fastest to get to the landmark taking 11 years and 189 days. Only Dravid and Kapil Dev, among Indians, have reached the milestone quicker.

There were presentations made by BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah and Indian captain Anil Kumble to Ganguly before start of play in the first Test to mark the occasion.
