The original film was in Malayalam. Since then, it has been remade in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu - and proved a blockbuster every time. Now there is a mad race among four filmmakers to remake the smash hit 'Chandramukhi' in Hindi - but all four want Aishwarya Rai to play the main lead. 

Unfortunately for them, the actor, is away shooting in Russia for 'The Last Legion', and tied up with commitments such as JP Dutta's 'Umrao Jaan', Aditya Chopra's 'Dhoom II' and Ashutosh Gowarikar's 'Akbar-Jodha' - so she has no dates to spare.

The actor's business manager Harii Singh confirms that she has been approached by the four filmmakers - Bangalore-based producer Dwarkesh, Chennai-based P Vasu, Hyderabad-based director Naren Aditya and writer Hyder and a well-known Mumbai producer.  "We have told all of them that immediately Aishwarya has no dates for them. We are also waiting to find out which producer has the relevant legal rights to remake the film in Hindi because as of now, all four are claiming that they have the rights," he adds.   

Earlier, rumours of Aditya Chopra and Boney Kapoor vying to buy the rights of the film had also been doing the rounds.

 

Chandramukhi facts

Actor Shobhana won the National Award for the original  Malayalam version.

Remade as 'Aptamitra' by P Vasu in Kannada, it won all the Filmfare awards in the language.

Vasu also made it in Tamil with Jyothika as 'Chandramukhi.'
